Dr. Matt Giuca - Extensive Anesthesia Leadership in New York

With a background in medicine spanning three decades, Dr. Matthew Giuca is the Chief of Anesthesiology at the VA Medical Center in Northport, New York. He is also Lead Anesthesia Consultant/Anesthesiology Lead for VISN 2 which encompasses the VA Medical Centers in New York and part of New Jersey. After earning his BS at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Matt Giuca, served as a physician assistant, cardiothoracic surgery, at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital , Tufts University Medical School, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston in the late 1990s and Winthrop University Hospital starting in 2000. He also served his country as a Physician Assistant in the Army as part to the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, KY. He then made a career change and chose to go to medical school

Dr. Giuca completed his MD in 2005 at Saba University School of Medicine and then did a Surgery and Critical Care Internship at North Shore/LIJ. He then did his Anesthesiology Residency training at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. There he gained honors as a Chief Resident of Anesthesiology with academic distinction. Dr. Giuca the pursued a career in private/academic practice, subsequently completing the Winthrop University Hospital’s Faculty Scholars Program in Mineola, New York. Through the hopsital's affiliation with Stony Brook University Hospital, Dr. Giuca led the formation of a comprehensive Medical Student Clerkship in Anesthesiology. He received many teaching awards and accolades from his students during his tenure. Many Anesthesiologists practicing today had their founding clinical experience on Dr. Giuca's clerkship. Additionally, From 2018 to 2020, he was Transition to Residency Course director with the New York University (NYU) Long Island School of Medicine in Mineola.

Dr. Matthew Giuca’s present responsibilities involve oversight of a full range of anesthesia services provided to veterans undergoing surgery, as well as those receiving acute and chronic pain management.
